Carnelian/Orca Agate
Blue • Orange • White Carnelian
This is a general description of the lot we purchased - not all pieces contain blue, white and orange.
This unique variety of Carnelian features natural layers of blue, white, and warm orange tones—an eye-catching combination created by the way chalcedony forms over time. Carnelian itself is a variety of chalcedony colored by iron inclusions, which give it its signature orange and reddish hues.
The soft blue and white banding seen in these pieces comes from areas of agate or chalcedony that formed alongside the carnelian, often under slightly different mineral conditions. These layers can resemble what’s commonly known as Orca Agate, which is characterized by its blue-gray and white tones. When these materials form together, the result is a naturally layered stone sometimes referred to in the trade as “Carnelian Orca Agate.”
This layered formation is entirely natural and occurs as silica-rich solutions deposit minerals in stages, creating bands of varying color and translucency. The contrast between the cool blues and whites and the warm carnelian tones makes each piece visually dynamic and completely one of a kind.
Energetically, this stone blends the grounding, motivating qualities often associated with Carnelian with the calming, balancing presence of blue and white chalcedony—creating a harmonious balance between vitality and steadiness.
Each piece is natural and unique. Variations in color distribution, banding, and translucency are expected and celebrated as part of the stone’s formation.
